Main Suspect Arrested in Talha Murder Case

Police have arrested the principal accused in the long-running murder case of Daffodil International University student Khondaker Abu Talha, bringing renewed attention to a crime that has remained unresolved in public memory for years.

The suspect, identified as Abdur Rahman Milon (28), also known as Md Milon, was detained by Jatrabari Police on Wednesday night during a targeted operation in the Sayedabad bus terminal area of Dhaka. According to a statement issued on Thursday morning by the Media and Public Relations Division of the Dhaka Metropolitan Police, officers acted on confidential intelligence that led them to the location shortly before 11 pm.

Police describe Milon as a well-known figure in the Sayedabad area, allegedly involved in street robbery and drug-related activities. Law enforcement officials said he had been under surveillance for some time in connection with multiple criminal cases, including robbery and murder.

The case in question relates to the killing of Khondaker Abu Talha, a computer science student of Daffodil International University. Talha, then 22, was fatally stabbed in October 2017 in the Tikatuli area of Dhaka while attempting to intervene during a street robbery near his residence. He was rushed to Dhaka Medical College Hospital but later succumbed to his injuries.

The incident occurred early in the morning as Talha left his home in K.M. Das Lane in Tikatuli, intending to travel to his university campus in Ashulia. Witness accounts and initial investigations suggested that a group of muggers attacked him, leading to fatal stab wounds. His death sparked widespread concern about rising street crime and public safety in the capital.

Talha, the eldest of three siblings, hailed from Deora village in Barura, Cumilla. He was living in a student hostel in Dhaka while pursuing his studies. His family background includes his father’s former involvement in the garment business.

Following the incident, police investigations named several individuals allegedly involved in the attack. Milon was arrested shortly after the murder in October 2017 from the Kaptan Bazar area along with another suspect. Investigators at the time recovered personal belongings of the victim and reported that the accused had given confessional statements during initial interrogation.

However, Milon was later released on bail and is reported to have returned to criminal activities, according to police sources.

Authorities say the latest arrest forms part of renewed efforts to strengthen the investigation and ensure accountability in a case that has drawn continued public attention for nearly a decade. Further legal procedures are expected as the investigation progresses.
