Mosaddek Recalled For Australia ODI Series Challenge

The Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) has announced a 15-member squad for the first two matches of the upcoming three-match One-Day International (ODI) series against Australia, with all-rounder Mosaddek Hossain making a return to the national side after a lengthy absence.

Mosaddek’s inclusion is the most significant development in the squad selection. The 30-year-old returns to Bangladesh’s ODI setup after nearly four years away from international cricket. His last ODI appearance came in August 2022, making this his first call-up to the format since then.

The recall represents an opportunity for the experienced all-rounder to re-establish himself in the national team ahead of a high-profile series against Australia. Known for his ability to contribute with both bat and ball, Mosaddek adds balance and flexibility to Bangladesh’s squad composition.

Another notable inclusion is experienced wicketkeeper-batter Nurul Hasan, who has also returned to the squad. Nurul Hasan Sohan was not part of Bangladesh’s most recent ODI series against New Zealand in April but has now been brought back for the opening two matches against Australia.

The latest selection has resulted in the exclusion of Afif Hossain and Mahidul Islam Ankon, both of whom featured in the squad for the New Zealand series. Their omission has paved the way for the return of Mosaddek and Sohan as Bangladesh seek the right combination against one of the world’s leading cricket nations.

The ODI series will begin on 9 June in Dhaka, with the second match scheduled for 11 June. The third and final ODI will be played on 14 June. The BCB has currently announced the squad for the first two fixtures of the series.

Bangladesh will be led by captain Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who continues in the leadership role. The squad reflects a blend of experienced international performers and younger players who have featured prominently in Bangladesh’s recent white-ball plans.

The batting group includes Soumya Sarkar, Saif Hassan, Tanzid Hasan Tamim, Najmul Hossain Shanto, Towhid Hridoy and Litton Kumar Das. The group combines top-order options with established middle-order experience.

Mosaddek’s return provides Bangladesh with an additional all-round option, while Sohan’s presence strengthens both the wicketkeeping department and the lower-middle order. Their experience could prove valuable against a strong Australian side.

Bangladesh have also retained a balanced bowling attack. The spin department includes Rishad Hossain and Tanvir Islam. The pace unit features several of the country’s leading fast bowlers, including Mustafizur Rahman, Taskin Ahmed, Shoriful Islam and Nahid Rana.

The squad selection indicates Bangladesh’s intention to field a well-balanced side capable of competing across all departments. The return of two experienced campaigners adds depth to a squad that already includes several established international cricketers.
