A road traffic collision in Dhaka’s Demra area has claimed the life of a 17-year-old boy and left his 18-year-old friend injured after their motorcycle lost control and they were thrown onto the road.
The incident occurred on Wednesday at approximately 10:45 pm in the Konapara Bansherpool area, near the entrance of the Dhaka Paper Mill. According to family members and witnesses, the two teenagers—who were close friends—were travelling together on a motorcycle when the driver reportedly lost control, causing both riders to be thrown onto the roadway.
The deceased has been identified as Nazmul Hossain, aged 17. He sustained serious injuries after falling from the motorcycle and was initially taken to Mugda General Hospital for emergency treatment. As his condition deteriorated, he was transferred to the emergency department of Dhaka Medical College Hospital around 12:45 am for advanced medical care. Despite efforts by attending doctors, he was declared dead shortly after arrival.
His friend, Iman, aged 18, suffered minor injuries and is currently receiving treatment.
A pedestrian eyewitness, Shahin Mia, described the moment of the accident, stating that the motorcycle suddenly became uncontrollable and both riders were thrown onto the road surface. He and others nearby assisted in moving the injured teenager to hospital care without delay.
Police officials confirmed the death at the hospital. Inspector Md Faruk, who is stationed at the Dhaka Medical College Hospital police outpost, stated that the medical team declared Nazmul dead upon arrival. His body has been kept in the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination. The Demra Police Station has been informed, and legal procedures are underway before the body is handed over to the family.
Nazmul Hossain was the son of Delwar Hossain, who operates a spice grinding business. Family members said that the teenager regularly assisted his father in the business and was actively involved in supporting household work alongside his studies.
