The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), an elite anti-crime and anti-terrorism unit of the Bangladesh Police, has apprehended a female drug trafficker in possession of a substantial quantity of illicit narcotics. The intelligence-led operation, which took place in the vicinity of the Paturia Ferry Ghat within the Shibalaya Upazila of the Manikganj district, resulted in the seizure of exactly 6,600 Yaba tablets. The detained individual has been identified as thirty-six-year-old Mst. Champa Khatun. Following her apprehension, a formal criminal case was registered against her under the stringent provisions of the national Narcotics Control Act.
The targeted raid was executed at approximately 11:00 AM on Wednesday, 17 June. Official confirmation of the arrest and the subsequent seizure of the synthetic stimulants was provided to the media later that evening, at approximately 8:00 PM. The briefing was delivered by Major SK M Sadman Hossain, the Company Commander of RAB-4, Crime Prevention Company-3 (CPC-3).
According to the official statements released by the Rapid Action Battalion, the operation was initiated based on actionable, confidential intelligence. Supported by modern information technology, an operational team from RAB-4, CPC-3 established a strategic presence at the Paturia Ferry Ghat area, which serves as a major transit hub connecting the capital to the western and southern districts of the country. During the surveillance operation, Mst. Champa Khatun was identified as a suspect and subsequently detained by law enforcement personnel. During the preliminary on-site interrogation, she confessed to the possession of the contraband. Acting directly upon her confession and specific indications, the personnel successfully recovered the 6,600 Yaba tablets, which had been meticulously concealed within her custody.
Official records indicate that the suspect, Mst. Champa Khatun, is permanently domiciled in the Mashinda Shikarpura Alia Madrasa area, situated under the jurisdiction of the Gurudaspur Police Station in the Natore district. However, she had been temporarily residing in rented accommodation located in the Kalyanpur neighbourhood of Mirpur, within the capital city of Dhaka.
During the initial phases of questioning, the Rapid Action Battalion ascertained vital information regarding her trafficking network and distribution methods. It was revealed that the seized consignment of Yaba had been transported from the Dhamrai area of the Dhaka district directly to the Paturia Ghat with the explicit intention of illicit distribution. Furthermore, interrogations disclosed that the suspect had been continuously engaged in this illicit enterprise for an extended period. Her established modus operandi involved consistently procuring large quantities of Yaba from various peripheries of the capital, specifically Dhamrai, Savar, and Ashulia. Following the procurement, she actively supplied and peddled the narcotics across various localities in the Manikganj district, notably targeting the bustling Paturia Ferry Ghat area.
Addressing the media regarding the successful interception, Major SK M Sadman Hossain stated, “Based on a tip-off, an operation was conducted and a female drug dealer was arrested with 6,600 pieces of Yaba. She has been handed over to Shibalaya Police Station for further legal action.”
The Company Commander further confirmed that, subsequent to the handover procedure, the Shibalaya Police Station formally registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the accused, ensuring that she will face thorough judicial proceedings for her involvement in the illicit narcotics trade.
