Ghatail Student Found Hanging

In Ghatail upazila of Tangail district, police have recovered the hanging body of a 23-year-old university student named Mehedi Hasan Jihad. The incident occurred in the Jogihati Madhyapara area, where the body was recovered on Saturday morning, 30 May.

The deceased, Mehedi Hasan Jihad, was the son of Ranjhu Mia of the same locality. He was a second-year undergraduate student at City University, Dhaka.

According to family and local sources, Jihad had reportedly been experiencing personal pressure for a prolonged period. It is also stated that there had been occasional misunderstandings between him and members of his family in relation to these personal matters.

Family accounts indicate that on Friday night, he had his meal with other family members before going to his room to sleep. On Saturday morning, when relatives could not locate him, they searched the premises and subsequently found him hanging from the staircase area of the house. Following the discovery, local residents informed the police.

Police from Ghatail Police Station arrived at the scene shortly afterwards and recovered the body. The body was then taken into custody for necessary legal procedures.

Ghatail Police Station’s Officer-in-Charge, Md. Moksedur Rahman, confirmed the recovery of the body. He stated that police had been informed of the incident and had subsequently retrieved the deceased. He further added that the exact cause of death could not be determined at this initial stage and that an investigation is currently ongoing. Necessary legal formalities are also being carried out in connection with the incident.

The incident drew attention in the local area, with residents gathering at the scene after news of the discovery spread. Police conducted an initial inspection of the surroundings and collected preliminary information as part of the ongoing inquiry.
