A woman was killed and her eight-year-old son was critically injured after a violent attack at their residence in Shibpur Union under Bhola Sadar Upazila. The incident took place late on Friday night at the Sharif Sardar house in Ward No. 6 of the union.
The deceased has been identified as Nasima Begum. Her son, Abir Hossain, is currently undergoing treatment at Bhola Sadar Hospital with serious injuries. Police have sent the body of the deceased for post-mortem examination, while the child remains under medical supervision.
According to available information, Nasima Begum was the second wife of Md Al-Amin Mia, a Bangladeshi expatriate residing in the United Arab Emirates. She lived with her only son in a separate room within the Sharif Sardar household.
Law enforcement and local residents reported that the attack occurred while the mother and child were asleep after having dinner. Assailants allegedly entered the room during the night and attacked Nasima Begum with sharp weapons, resulting in her death. Her son was also struck multiple times and sustained severe injuries.
The injured child later told police that he feigned death during the assault, which may have led the attackers to leave the scene. He subsequently managed to exit the house in the early morning hours and raised an alarm, drawing the attention of nearby residents.
In his statement, the child named Jihad (23), son of the late former Union Parishad member Md Jamal Uddin, as one of the alleged attackers. Police have detained Jihad for questioning in connection with the incident.
Local residents stated that the house appeared ransacked following the attack. It has also been reported that Nasima Begum had taken a loan of approximately one lakh taka from a non-governmental organisation for house renovation purposes. After the incident, the money could not be found, raising suspicions that it may have been taken during the attack.
Neighbour Nazim Uddin said the injured child arrived at their residence in a severely wounded condition and informed them about the incident. Residents then contacted the national emergency service, after which police were informed. Officers later arrived at the scene, recovered the body, and arranged for the injured child to be taken to hospital.
Bhola Sadar Model Police Station confirmed that they carried out the initial investigation at the scene and completed the inquest report. One individual has been detained for interrogation, and legal proceedings are currently underway.
