A tragic discovery unfolded at a residential hotel in Chattogram’s Mirsarai Upazila on Monday, where law enforcement officers recovered the hanging body of a police official from a locked room. Alongside the deceased officer, his wife and their ten-month-old infant daughter were found lying in a pool of blood near the doorway.
The grim incident occurred inside room number 104 of Hotel Relax Zone, situated near the Borotakia Bazar area. The deceased man has been identified as 32-year-old Aminul Islam, a-assistant sub-inspector stationed at the Rangamati Police Lines and a native of Abul Hossain Master Bari in the Upazila’s Khoiyachhora Union. His injured wife, 24-year-old Tahmina Akhter, is the daughter of Md Ibrahim from Dakshin Hajishowrai in Durgapur Union.
According to hotel records and staff accounts, Aminul checked into the establishment on Sunday afternoon at approximately 2:00 pm, presenting himself as a businessman accompanied by his family. Throughout the afternoon, evening, and late into the night at around 9:00 pm, staff observed Aminul leaving and returning to the premises alone. Neither his wife nor their infant was seen leaving the room during this period.
The situation came to light on Monday morning at around 10:30 am when hotel employees attempted to clean the room. Receiving no response after repeated knocks, hotel management was alerted to check on the occupants. Moments later, a bloodied Tahmina opened the door from the inside. Horrified staff members discovered Aminul hanging from the ceiling fan near the bed and immediately notified the Mirsarai Police Station. A police team rushed to the scene, retrieved the officer’s body, and arranged urgent medical transport for the injured mother and child.
Hotel manager Md Sohan noted that the couple had rented the room under marital status with a baby, though no outside visitors were recorded entering the room. Family members have since shed light on the turbulent background of the marriage. According to the victim’s mother, Amena Begum, the couple was married through an arranged union in January 2025. She stated that marital discord had surfaced early, with allegations that the husband failed to provide adequate financial maintenance. Amena explained that during her daughter’s pregnancy, Aminul brought Tahmina to stay with him under the pretext of needing care. On Sunday morning, Aminul reportedly took Tahmina to the Khoiyachhora Union Parishad regarding their daughter Fatiha’s birth registration certificate. Later that afternoon, Tahmina informed her mother via mobile phone that Aminul had secured a new residence and that they would move in by Monday morning, only for the family to receive the devastating news hours later.
Assistant Superintendent of Police Nadim Haider Chowdhury, representing the Mirsarai Circle of the Chattogram District Police, confirmed the recovery of the officer’s body and the rescue of his injured wife, who was transferred to the Upazila Health Complex for medical treatment. He added that the ten-month-old infant survived the ordeal unharmed and remains in safe, stable condition. Preliminary police assessments suggest that deep-seated domestic disputes may have triggered the catastrophic event, while formal legal procedures and investigative measures continue to establish the exact sequence of events.
