A tragic road accident claimed the life of a young man in Juri Upazila, Moulvibazar, on Thursday evening, casting a sombre shadow over the local community. Badal Mia, a 35-year-old married businessman, sustained fatal injuries after a collision between his motorcycle and an oncoming pickup van in the Bachirpur area.

The accident occurred on the first day of Ramadan. Earlier that afternoon, Badal had sent iftar supplies from his in-laws’ home for his family. He personally delivered the items to his elder sister’s residence. On his return journey, at approximately 5:45–5:55 pm, a pickup van travelling in the opposite direction struck his motorcycle in front of Helal Uddin’s house, causing him to be thrown from the vehicle and suffer a severe head injury.
Locals rushed him to Juri Upazila Health Complex, where his condition rapidly deteriorated. He was being transferred to M. A. G. Osmani Medical College Hospital in Sylhet for advanced treatment, but he succumbed to his injuries en route.
Victim Profile
Badal Mia was the son of the late Mangal Mia of Bachirpur. He operated a small business dealing in packaged food products and had married in December of the previous year. The accident occurred just two months after his wedding.
Family Reaction
Speaking through tears, Badal’s elder brother, Morshed Alam, said:
“My brother started his business, then got married. He had not even completed two months of married life before he left us. How can we console ourselves?”
His widow and other family members spent the night in grief, while neighbours tried to offer support and comfort.
Police Statement
Minhaz Uddin, officer-in-charge of Juri Police Station, reported that no formal written complaint has yet been submitted by the family. Following their request, Badal’s body was handed over to the family without a post-mortem examination. Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
