NSC Dissolves BCB Board, Appoints Tamim Chairman

The National Sports Council (NSC) has dissolved the current Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) governing body and established an 11-member ad hoc committee, headed by former national team captain Tamim Iqbal. This announcement was made at a press conference this afternoon by Aminul Ehsan, the NSC’s Director of Sports, who also presented the findings of a specially constituted NSC investigative committee.

Background to the Decision

The NSC formed an investigative committee to review the BCB’s administrative performance and overall governance. According to the committee’s report, the current governing body had failed to demonstrate adequate administrative efficiency and transparency. Based on these findings, the NSC decided to dissolve the board immediately and notify the International Cricket Council (ICC) via official email.

Aminul Ehsan clarified that the ad hoc committee, led by Tamim Iqbal, has been assigned a tenure of three months. During this period, the committee will oversee all board operations, implement administrative policies, and prepare for the forthcoming full-scale elections of a new BCB governing body.

Over its three-month tenure, the ad hoc committee is expected to address pressing governance issues, strengthen policy frameworks, and oversee selection and development programmes for national cricket.

Cricket analysts have highlighted that this restructuring aims to inject accountability and professionalism into the board, with Tamim Iqbal’s leadership bringing credibility and experience from his extensive international career. The committee’s actions during this interim period are likely to influence the direction of Bangladeshi cricket for years to come.

Overall, the establishment of the Tamim-led ad hoc committee marks a significant step towards stabilising and modernising the BCB’s administration, providing a platform for improved governance and enhanced performance at both domestic and international levels.
