Sayedus Saleheen Suman, better known as Bassbaba Suman and the frontman of the band Orthohin, has confirmed the inclusion of his music in the upcoming film Andhar, directed by Raihan Rafi. He is generally known for not granting permission for the use of his songs in films, though he previously made an exception for Banalata Express, released during Eid, where the song Chaittei Paro Tumi was used at the request of director Tanin Noor.
For Andhar, Suman has stated that the film will feature both an older track and a newly recorded song performed by him. He has not shared further details about the compositions at this stage, saying that official information will be disclosed by the production team ahead of the film’s release.
Suman is also directly involved in the writing process of Andhar. He co-authored the story with Shakib Chowdhury of Cryptic Fate and Adnan Adib Khan. According to him, the film brings together several genres in a single narrative framework. He described it as combining horror, thriller, action, detective storytelling, and elements of comic relief. He also stated that this type of genre combination has not previously been presented in Bangladeshi cinema in the same way.
The development of the story was influenced by an interest in folklore and supernatural narratives. Suman and Shakib Chowdhury reportedly travelled to various parts of the country in search of local ghost stories and traditional accounts, which later contributed to shaping the film’s storyline.
Andhar features a large ensemble cast, including Siam Ahmed, Nazifa Tushi, Chanchal Chowdhury, Afsana Mimi, Gazi Rakayet, and Mostafa Monwar, among others. The film’s shooting was completed last year, and it is expected to be released in cinemas within the current year, although a specific release date has not yet been announced.
Meanwhile, following the release of Banalata Express, the song Chaittei Paro Tumi has gained renewed attention. Audience response in cinema halls has contributed to its visibility, with continued discussion surrounding the track. Bassbaba Suman has expressed satisfaction with the reception, noting that the response from both local and international audiences has been positive and that he values being part of the project.
He further stated that his decision to participate in Banalata Express was an exception to his usual approach of avoiding film music. According to him, the decision was influenced by his familiarity with director Tanin Noor’s previous works, including the film Utsob and the web series Kaizer, both of which he has personally watched and appreciated.
