Young Man Shot Dead in Broad Daylight in Chattogram

A twenty-five-year-old man was shot dead in broad daylight in the Muradpur Forest Gate area under Panchlaish Police Station in Chattogram. The brazen attack took place at around quarter to four in the afternoon on Wednesday, sending shockwaves through the bustling commercial hub. The deceased has been identified as Azad, son of Rasheed, residing at the Hakim Shah Huzur residence in the Hamzarbagh locality of Panchlaish.

Ambushed from Behind on a Busy Street

According to sources at the Chattogram Medical College (CMC) Hospital, Azad was walking along the pavement when unidentified assailants approached him from behind and opened fire. The gunshots caused immediate panic amongst pedestrians and local shopkeepers, who scrambled for safety. Azad collapsed on the spot with critical bullet wounds as the attackers fled the scene, blending into the afternoon crowd.

Recognising the gravity of his injuries, acquaintances and bystanders rushed to his aid. They rescued the bleeding youth and transported him to the CMC Hospital emergency department. Despite their swift actions, the attending doctors pronounced him dead upon arrival. Initial medical assessments suggest that massive internal haemorrhage from the gunshot wounds proved fatal before any clinical intervention could begin.

Police Launch Investigation Amid Safety Concerns

The audacity of a targeted killing in a heavily populated urban area has raised immediate concerns regarding public safety and law enforcement visibility. Upon receiving the news, senior officers from the Chattogram Metropolitan Police (CMP) and forensic teams cordoned off the crime scene to gather evidence and interview potential eyewitnesses.

Md Hasan Mostafa Swapan, Deputy Commissioner (North) of the CMP, confirmed the details of the fatal shooting. He stated that law enforcement authorities were alerted to the incident at around quarter past four, shortly after the attack occurred. An active investigation has been initiated to trace the perpetrators and establish a motive.

Officers are currently reviewing security camera footage from adjacent buildings and questioning local residents. While the underlying cause of the murder remains unclear, investigators are looking into whether personal enmity, local rivalries, or systemic turf disputes triggered the attack. The body has been sent to the hospital morgue for a post-mortem examination as police promise swift action against the perpetrators.
