A teenager has been taken into police custody in Bhairab, Kishoreganj, following the alleged sexual assault of a five-year-old child who had gone to his residence to play. The local community intervened on Thursday afternoon, detaining the adolescent before handing him over to the authorities. The incident, which has sparked deep anger and concern across the neighbourhood, reportedly took place on Wednesday morning in the Chandiber Modhyapara area of the municipal town.
According to municipal sources and law enforcement officials, both families reside in adjacent rented properties along Omer Khan Sarani. The young victim routinely visited the neighbouring house to play with the suspect’s younger brother. Investigators revealed that on Wednesday morning, the child entered the premises under the impression of a routine playdate. However, taking advantage of an empty house with no adult supervision present, the teenage suspect allegedly assaulted the five-year-old child.
The timeline outlines the key events from the day of the assault to the deployment of judicial and medical protocols.
The matter came to light after the traumatised child informed her mother, prompting the family to seek help from neighbours. Upon learning of the gravity of the assault, local residents moved quickly to prevent the suspect from fleeing the area. They secured the teenager at the scene and immediately alerted the local emergency services.
The victim’s mother expressed her profound shock whilst recounting the circumstances to reporters. She stated that because the families lived in such close proximity, her daughter frequently spent time playing with the suspect’s sibling without any previous cause for concern. She demanded swift justice for the harrowing ordeal inflicted upon her young child.
The Bhairab Police Station has initiated a rigorous inquiry into the case under the stringent provisions of the Women and Children Repression Prevention Act. The Officer-in-Charge (OC), Limon Bose, confirmed to journalists that a police unit arrived promptly at the location to take over custody of the teenage suspect.
Statement from Law Enforcement: “Our preliminary investigation and initial interrogation of the suspect have corroborated the validity of the allegations,” Officer-in-Charge Bose stated. “The adolescent has admitted to his involvement during questioning.”
To ensure the integrity of the judicial process, the police have forwarded the young victim to Kishoreganj Sadar Hospital, where a specialised medical board will conduct a comprehensive forensic examination. Such medical evaluations are vital in the Bangladeshi legal system to secure admissible forensic evidence before formal charges are pressed in a court of law.
Public health advocates and legal experts note that densely populated municipal zones often lack adequate community safeguards for young children, making routine local monitoring essential. The Bhairab police administration has reassured the public that additional statements are being recorded from witnesses, and comprehensive legal proceedings are being actively processed to ensure accountability.
