As 2026 unfolds, five of Bangladesh’s rising musical talents are stepping into the new year with distinct ambitions and creative visions. In a conversation with Nazmul Haque, the artists shared their plans for music, performance, and social engagement.
Asir Arman: Embracing a Selective Approach :
Among younger audiences, Asir Arman has carved out a unique place with his music. Yet, he prefers to work selectively, taking long pauses between releases. Last year, he released only one single, “Achiya”, which received widespread acclaim for addressing the sensitive story of a child survivor of sexual assault in Magura.
On his plans for 2026, Asir explained:
“I don’t really plan rigidly. I’m taking a break from concerts and focusing on studio work. When I feel ready to release new music or perform, I will do so.”
Mahtim Shakib: Expanding Engagement
Mahtim Shakib began 2025 with his hit “Maya Maya Lage” and has remained busy since, particularly with his musical audio drama, Robiyapon, which earned praise for its creativity. In 2026, he plans to expand his outreach through his new YouTube channel, original songs, and some international collaborations in India.
“I want to strengthen my connection with audiences, maintain traditions, continue learning, and improve my craft,” he said.
Deboshree Antra: Focus on Live Performances
Deboshree Antra rose to fame with “Lage Uradhura” from the film Tufan. However, her presence diminished afterward, appearing only in a drama and some jingles. This year, she intends to dedicate most of her time to concerts while continuing to release her original songs.
“Last year I was unwell and couldn’t work much. Now I’m back to singing, dancing, presenting shows, and even acting. My song ‘Samachar’ is ready, and more releases will follow,” she explained.
Ankon Kumar: Debut Solo Album
Ankon Kumar gained recognition with his Coke Studio Bangla duet “Long Distance Love” with Sheikh Mumtahina Mehjabin and later contributed “Ghuri Ami” for Sharaf Ahmed’s web film Dimlight. His first solo album is slated for mid-2026.
“I started the year with several plans. By year-end, I’ll see what I achieved. I aim to sustain the popularity I’ve gained quickly,” he said.
Masha: Original Music and Social Advocacy
2025 was remarkable for Masha, whose song “Ektukhani Mon” for Shihab Shaheen’s film Dagi received high praise. Beyond music, she is active socially, serving as an advocate for Jago Foundation’s Educate a Girl Child programme and collaborating with the British High Commission. For the past three years, she has also been a UNDP SDG socialiser and advocate.
Her first solo album track, “Shraboni Rod”, is releasing this month, with two more songs scheduled in the following months.
“My main focus is on my original music. The album is progressing gradually, and I also want to dedicate more time to social causes,” Masha said.
