Pickup Driver Killed in Dhaleshwari Bridge Crash

In the early hours of Saturday, 24 January 2026, a severe road accident occurred on the Dhaleshwari Bridge slope of the Dhaka–Bhanga Expressway in Sirajdikhan Upazila, Munshiganj. The collision claimed the life of a pickup truck driver, while one passenger sustained serious injuries and was immediately admitted to Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

According to eyewitnesses and local highway police reports, the pickup truck, which was transporting chickens, was travelling towards Dhaka when it was struck by a passenger bus heading in the same direction. The impact caused the pickup to overturn on the bridge’s incline. The driver, aged between 35 and 36, died instantly, and the passenger, aged 22–23, was left unconscious and critically injured.

Officer-in-Charge ATM Mahmudul Haque of Hansara Highway Police Station stated, “The bus involved in the collision is currently being traced. The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) has been informed. The deceased driver’s body and the pickup have been secured at the police station. The injured individual’s identity and condition are being verified in coordination with the hospital.”

Preliminary investigations indicate that multiple factors contributed to the accident, including the challenging slope of the bridge, reduced visibility during night-time, and the heavy load of the pickup truck. Highway authorities have emphasised the need for enhanced caution when driving on expressways, particularly at night, and urged drivers to maintain safe speeds and control.
