Bangladesh have moved on from their absence at the most recent ICC T20 World Cup, according to national captain Litton Das, who addressed the issue ahead of the T20 series against New Zealand in Chattogram.
Speaking at the pre-series press conference, Litton was asked whether the team had managed to move past not featuring in the latest T20 World Cup. He replied that, in his view, the squad had already moved forward and had remained focused on competitive cricket during that period.
He stated that Bangladesh had taken part in another tournament during the World Cup window, where players attempted to perform to the best of their ability. He added that international fixtures remain highly significant for every player and that the team would continue to approach each match with the mindset required to win.
Litton emphasised that players are expected to maintain focus on representing Bangladesh and to take to the field with a strong competitive attitude. He underlined the importance of commitment and the winning mentality required at international level.
This upcoming series against New Zealand marks Bangladesh’s first international assignment following the most recent T20 World Cup. Litton Das, who previously served as captain for a two-year term, has again been appointed for another two-year period.
The most recent T20 World Cup was jointly hosted by India and Sri Lanka. Litton stated that the team had been built around that tournament cycle. Looking ahead, he noted that the next T20 World Cup is scheduled to be held in Australia and New Zealand in 2028, and preparations are already being considered with that long-term target in mind.
He further added that the team environment and preparation during the previous World Cup cycle were strong, and efforts would be made to retain that core structure while building for the future.
For the opening series under his renewed captaincy, Bangladesh will field a slightly altered squad. Experienced fast bowlers Taskin Ahmed and Mustafizur Rahman have not been included. In their place, two new players—Abdul Ghaffar and Ripon Mondol—have been added to the squad.
Litton explained that the changes were made with long-term planning in mind. He said that the intention was to manage the workload of senior fast bowlers and avoid injury risks associated with continuous international cricket. He also noted that Bangladesh still have a heavy schedule in One Day Internationals and Test matches, which requires careful player management.
