BRTA Publishes Revised Fare Schedule for Long-Distance Bus Routes

The Bangladesh Road Transport Authority (BRTA) has officially released a comprehensive and updated fare chart for inter-district and long-distance bus services across the nation. This regulatory update, which includes revised pricing for metropolitan routes within Dhaka and Chattogram, was uploaded to the authority’s official web portal on Friday, 24 April 2026.

The new pricing framework establishes distinct fare brackets based on vehicle seat capacity, specifically categorising rates for 51-seater and 40-seater buses. These adjustments have been implemented to standardise transport costs and reflect the current operational economic climate, including fluctuations in fuel prices and maintenance overheads.

Route-Specific Fare Adjustments: Gabtoli Terminal

The Gabtoli terminal serves as the primary gateway for passengers travelling to the northern and western regions of Bangladesh. The newly gazetted fares for prominent routes from this hub are as follows:

  • Panchagarh: As one of the most distant northern destinations, the fare for a 51-seater bus is now 1,005 BDT, while the 40-seater service is priced at 1,281 BDT.

  • Rangpur: The revised rate for 51-seater transport is 751 BDT, with 40-seater coaches set at 911 BDT.

  • Rajshahi: Travel to the divisional headquarters will cost 777 BDT (51-seater) or 991 BDT (40-seater).

  • Jhenaidah: Passengers will pay 501 BDT for 51-seater buses and 639 BDT for 40-seater services.

Route-Specific Fare Adjustments: Sayedabad Terminal

Sayedabad remains the central departure point for the eastern and southern districts, including the coastal belt. The updated fares include:

  • Chattogram: The 51-seater bus fare is confirmed at 704 BDT. (The 40-seater service for this specific route is listed at 552 BDT).

Route-Specific Fare Adjustments: Mohakhali Terminal

The Mohakhali hub manages traffic for the North-Central region and the Greater Mymensingh division:

  • Mymensingh: The fare for the 51-seater configuration is 294 BDT, while 40-seater buses will charge 375 BDT.

  • Jamalpur: Revised rates are 386 BDT for 51-seaters and 492 BDT for 40-seaters.

  • Kishoreganj: The fare is set at 401 BDT for 51-seater transport and 511 BDT for 40-seater services.

Enforcement and Passenger Guidelines

The BRTA has issued a strict directive to all transport operators and owners to display these updated fare charts in highly visible locations at every ticket counter. This transparency measure is intended to protect commuters from arbitrary overcharging. Passengers are encouraged to verify the specific seating capacity of their bus—either 40 or 51 seats—to ensure they are paying the correct legally mandated price.

To ensure universal compliance, mobile courts and specialised BRTA enforcement teams will be stationed at major terminals to conduct spot checks. The authority has warned that any transport provider found charging in excess of the official gazetted rates will face immediate legal penalties, including fines and potential suspension of route permits. These revisions follow exhaustive consultations between the government and transport stakeholders to ensure that fares remain sustainable for operators while remaining affordable for the general public.
