Hostel Closure After Student Clash

At Mymensingh Medical College, the authorities have closed the student hostel and suspended all academic classes and examinations following a clash between two groups of students. In addition, a three-member investigation committee has been formed to examine the incident in detail.

The decision was confirmed on Saturday (18 April) afternoon by the college principal, Professor Dr Nazrul Alam Khan, in statements given to the media. He stated that, in response to the altercation between students, the hostel facilities would remain closed for one week, and all classes and examinations across all academic years would be suspended for the same period. He further confirmed that an official inquiry committee has been established to investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.

The incident occurred on Friday, when two students engaged in a verbal altercation while sitting at a shop where they had gone to drink tea. The dispute reportedly arose over a Facebook post, which led to an exchange of heated words between them. The argument subsequently escalated into a physical confrontation.

Following this initial clash, news of the incident spread among their peers, resulting in tensions between two groups of students. This escalation led to a broader confrontation involving members of both groups. Law enforcement personnel were later deployed to the scene, where they intervened and brought the situation under control.

After the situation was stabilised, two injured students, identified as Mir Hamidul and Md Muaz, were admitted to Mymensingh Medical College Hospital for treatment. Among them, one student was reported to be in a critical condition and was subsequently transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced medical care.

The administration has emphasised that the suspension of academic activities and hostel closure have been introduced as immediate measures to maintain discipline and ensure campus safety while the situation is reviewed.
