A tragic incident in the heart of the capital has once again raised serious concerns over public safety, after a young man was killed in a bomb explosion in the New Eskaton area of Dhaka on Wednesday evening. Police confirmed that the explosion occurred at approximately 7:45 pm, when an explosive device was thrown from a nearby flyover onto the road below.
According to law enforcement officials, the blast took place in front of the gate of the Muktijoddha Kendriya Command Council building in New Eskaton, a relatively busy area that remains active well into the evening. The sudden explosion caused panic among pedestrians, shopkeepers and passers-by, prompting many to flee the scene in fear.
The Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Ramna Division, Masud Alam, briefed the media shortly after the incident. He stated that the victim sustained critical injuries at the spot and was pronounced dead moments later, before he could be transported to hospital. The deceased has been identified as Siam, a young man who, according to preliminary information, had come to the area simply to have a cup of tea.
Police believe the explosive device was deliberately thrown from the flyover above, striking close to the victim and detonating instantly. While the exact nature of the device has not yet been officially disclosed, investigators have launched a full-scale inquiry to determine whether the incident was the result of targeted violence, criminal activity or a broader act of sabotage.
Following the explosion, police cordoned off the area and temporarily restricted traffic movement to ensure public safety. Bomb disposal experts and forensic teams were deployed to examine the site, collect evidence and search for any additional threats. CCTV footage from nearby buildings and traffic cameras is also being reviewed in an effort to identify those responsible.
