Organised Armed Attack in Rupganj

A violent and coordinated armed attack on residential homes and a business establishment in Rupganj upazila of Narayanganj district has left at least eight people injured and triggered widespread panic in the locality. The incident took place at around 9:00 pm on Saturday (18 April) in the Government Bari area of Golakandail Union.

According to local sources and victims, the violence erupted in Golakandail South Para, where Shahadat Hossain Akash had been operating an auto-rickshaw garage on leased land. It is alleged that a group of locally identified miscreants, reportedly led by individuals known as Roki, Mizan, Ishak, Rifat, Parvez, and Iqbal, had been frequently creating disorder in front of the garage. Tensions escalated after repeated objections were raised against their activities.

Eyewitnesses stated that on the night of the incident, a group of approximately 30 to 40 armed individuals suddenly launched an attack using local weapons. The assailants allegedly began with verbal threats and abusive language before proceeding to widespread vandalism. Several auto-rickshaws, motorcycles, batteries, CCTV systems, and mechanical equipment inside the garage were severely damaged. A portion of the equipment was also looted during the attack.

When residents attempted to resist the assault, they too were attacked. At least eight individuals, including members of the household and nearby neighbours, sustained injuries. Although they were initially treated locally, medical sources confirmed that several victims remain in serious condition.

The incident has heightened fear among residents, many of whom are now demanding immediate arrests and stronger law enforcement presence to restore order and ensure public safety.
