Passenger Killed in Ullapara Rail Crash

A tragic accident in Sirajganj’s Ullapara upazila has claimed the life of a young male passenger after he was fatally struck while travelling on a moving intercity train. The incident occurred on Sunday at approximately 1:00 pm near Ullapara Railway Station on the Ishwardi–Dhaka rail corridor.

According to eyewitness accounts and railway officials, the incident took place when a Chilahati–Dhaka bound intercity train was passing through Ullapara station without scheduled stoppage. During the high-speed passage of the train, the passenger reportedly leaned his head outside the window. At that moment, he collided forcefully with a metal pillar of the station’s overbridge. The impact was severe and instantaneous, resulting in his death at the scene.

Station Master Abdul Baten confirmed the incident, stating that the train was not programmed to halt at Ullapara and was moving at normal operating speed. He further noted that the deceased was believed to be approximately 22 to 23 years old, though his identity could not be immediately established.

Following the accident, railway police were promptly informed. They arrived at the location, recovered the body, and initiated the necessary legal and procedural formalities. Efforts are currently underway to identify the deceased and trace his family.

Local residents and railway observers have described the incident as a stark reminder of the dangers associated with unsafe behaviour during train journeys. Many passengers, they noted, often ignore safety regulations by leaning out of windows or standing near open doors, particularly while trains pass through stations at speed. Such negligence frequently leads to avoidable and sometimes fatal accidents.

Railway authorities have once again urged passengers to strictly adhere to safety guidelines, emphasising that extending any part of the body outside a moving train is extremely hazardous. They stressed that risks are especially high when trains pass through stations, bridges, or other structural points along the track.
