High Density of Incidents in Chapainawabganj
The highest concentration of seasonal casualties was recorded within Chapainawabganj district, where six individuals, including three women, lost their lives across the Sadar, Shibganj, and Nachole upazilas (sub-districts). These fatal interactions with atmospheric electricity took place during intense afternoon downpours that disrupted routine activities.
According to specific statements provided by the Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Shibganj Police Station, Motiur Rahman, three of the recorded fatalities within his administrative jurisdiction occurred simultaneously whilst the individuals were gathering fallen mangoes in a fruit orchard adjacent to their residences. The victims were killed instantly by a high-voltage strike on the scene.
In Sadar upazila, the local casualty was struck whilst attempting to retrieve his family livestock from an open, exposed field during the height of the storm. Local residents located the unconscious youth and transported him to the general district hospital, where medical personnel formally pronounced him dead. Within Nachole upazila, one female victim was fatally struck whilst returning to her residence after cutting fodder grass, and another male victim died whilst foraging for mangoes, as confirmed by Nachole Police Station OC Sukomal Chandra Debnath.
“Sudden convective storms during this particular pre-monsoon transition present extreme operational risks to individuals remaining in open fields or taking cover under isolated trees. Public compliance with immediate safety protocols is critical to reducing these recurring casualties,” noted a regional disaster management official.

In Natore district, a 25-year-old man was killed in Boro Baraihati village, located within the Lalor union of Singra upazila, during the early evening hours. A 30-year-old housewife standing in close proximity to the impact zone sustained severe neurological and physical injuries from the secondary current. The Dimla Upazila Health and Family Planning Officer, Rasheduzzaman, confirmed that the deceased was brought directly to the health facility morgue, while the injured woman remains under active medical treatment in the isolation ward.
Further north in Panchagarh district, a 19-year-old tractor assistant died in the Baniyapara area of Amarkhana union within Sadar upazila. According to local police sources and Amarkhana Union Parishad Chairman Nuruzzaman Nuru, the youth was assisting a tractor driver in transporting harvested maize from a commercial field when the vehicle became immobilised in soft, waterlogged mud.
