The crash also injured at least three other people, who are currently receiving treatment at Netrokona Sadar Hospital.

The fatal incident occurred on Sunday afternoon along the Mymensingh–Netrokona regional highway, near the Challisha Bypass area. According to local residents, police officials and hospital sources, the auto-rickshaw was travelling towards Challisha from Netrokona town with several passengers when it was struck by an oncoming passenger bus travelling from Mymensingh to Netrokona.

Witnesses described the collision as extremely severe. The impact reportedly crushed the three-wheeled vehicle, trapping and critically injuring several occupants. Emergency rescue efforts began immediately as local residents rushed to the scene to assist victims before emergency services arrived.

Authorities have also begun investigating the circumstances surrounding the collision to determine the exact cause of the crash.

The tragedy has once again drawn attention to the persistent challenge of road safety in Bangladesh. Traffic experts and safety advocates have long highlighted factors such as speeding, reckless driving, dangerous overtaking and inadequate adherence to traffic regulations as major contributors to fatal accidents across the country.

For residents of Netrokona, however, the statistics have become painfully personal. The loss of a mother and her two young daughters in a single incident has left a profound sense of grief throughout the community, with many calling for stronger enforcement of road safety measures to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
