Canine Dispute Sparks Bloody Brawl at Indian Wedding

What was intended to be a joyous matrimonial celebration in the Fatehpur district of Uttar Pradesh, India, descended into a violent spectacle of chaos and bloodshed. A dispute centred around the bride’s pet dog ignited a fierce confrontation between the two families, leading to the abrupt cancellation of the ceremony and leaving several guests hospitalised.

From Vows to Violence

The events unfolded during the wedding of Tanya Kesarwani, a resident of Prayagraj, and Sumit, who hails from Kanpur. The couple had originally eloped in January, but after receiving the subsequent blessings of their respective families, a formal social wedding was organised for 18 February to solemnise the union traditionally.

The atmosphere remained celebratory until approximately 4:00 am during the jewelry-giving ritual. At this juncture, the bride’s pet dog began barking incessantly. Irritated by the noise, a young man from the groom’s party allegedly struck the animal. This act of aggression immediately triggered a verbal altercation between the families that rapidly escalated into a physical riot.

A Battlefield of Chairs and Sticks

Eyewitnesses described a scene of utter bedlam as relatives from both sides abandoned decorum, wielding wooden sticks and chairs as weapons. The ensuing melee resulted in significant casualties, with the bride’s side bearing the brunt of the violence.

Love Prevails Against Tradition

Despite the formal “cancellation” by the elders, Tanya refused to let the family feud dictate her future. Five days after the disastrous event, she left her home in Prayagraj and arrived alone at Sumit’s doorstep in Kanpur. Though initially met with hesitation from her in-laws, her steadfast resolve eventually secured her place in the household.

Tanya later took to social media, sharing a video alongside Sumit to clarify their status. She emphasised that their legal marriage had been concluded in January and that the Fatehpur event was merely a ceremonial formality. Ultimately, despite the fractured relations between the two families and the bloody skirmish over a pet, the bride has successfully taken up residence at her husband’s home, choosing personal affection over ancestral discord.
