Bangladesh Climbs Rankings After Series Win

Following their hard-fought victory over Pakistan in the recent three-match One Day International (ODI) series, Bangladesh’s cricket team has seen notable movement in the ICC rankings, with captain Mehedi Hasan Miraz leading the way. The 28-year-old all-rounder has broken into the top ten among ODI bowlers while simultaneously climbing to second place in the all-rounders’ rankings.

The latest rankings, released today, also highlight significant advances by series standout performers Tanzid Hasan and Nahid Rana. Bangladesh secured the series 2-1, concluding on 15 March, with Mehedi Hasan Miraz proving pivotal with the ball. Over 30 overs across three matches, he conceded just 3.33 runs per over while taking five wickets. His consistent bowling performance earned him a nine-spot jump in the ODI bowlers’ rankings, placing him at seventh overall. Among the top ten, only the positions of Rashid Khan, Jofra Archer, and Keshav Maharaj remain above him.

While Miraz only batted in the second ODI, scoring a solitary run, his all-round contributions were enough to push him up two places to second in the all-rounders’ rankings. He now has 280 rating points, surpassing Sikandar Raza, who dropped to third with 276 points. Afghanistan’s Azmatullah Omarzai continues to lead the category with 329 points.

Bangladesh’s other bowlers also recorded substantial ranking improvements. Taskin Ahmed climbed 12 places to 28th, Mustafizur Rahman jumped 13 places to 47th, and Nahid Rana soared an impressive 65 spots to reach 98th position. Conversely, Rishad fell seven spots to 68th among bowlers and dropped 13 places to 43rd among all-rounders.

In the batsmen’s rankings, Tanzid Hasan made the most significant leap. The opener scored 175 runs in three matches, including a century, propelling him 31 places up to 55th. Meanwhile, Towhid Hridoy advanced two places to 32nd, marking the highest-ranked Bangladeshi batsman in the latest update. The top three in the batting rankings remain unchanged: David Warner, Virat Kohli, and Ibrahim Zadran.
