In a disturbing development in Manikganj district, police have recovered a human severed head three days after the discovery of a headless body belonging to an e-rickshaw driver. The latest find was made on Sunday morning in a maize field beside the bank of the Kaliganga River in the Dighulia area of Manikganj Sadar upazila.
Officers from the Baniajuri Investigation Centre recovered the remains after a local farmer, while harvesting maize, stumbled upon the decomposed head and immediately alerted authorities. Police suspect that the head belongs to 27-year-old Rafiq Mia, an e-rickshaw driver whose mutilated body was previously found in the same locality.
According to investigators, the distance between the location where the headless body was discovered and the newly recovered head is approximately two kilometres. Law enforcement officials believe the head may have been discarded into the river following the killing and later drifted downstream before ending up near the farmland. They also suggest that animals such as stray dogs or foxes might have carried it further inland.
The Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) in Manikganj has confirmed that Rafiq Mia was allegedly murdered in a premeditated attack involving individuals known to him. Police Superintendent Jayita Shilpi stated that the victim was reportedly beheaded after being assaulted, and his remains were disposed of in different locations in an attempt to conceal evidence. However, formal identification of the recovered head will only be confirmed after forensic examination.
Three individuals have already been arrested in connection with the case: Ripon Mia (30), a construction worker from Rathra village in Ghior upazila; Arman Hossain (20); and Sajib Hossain (25), both from Paschbarail village in Sadar upazila. Investigators allege that the murder was motivated by a plan to seize and sell the victim’s e-rickshaw.
Police records indicate that Rafiq Mia left his home on Tuesday morning with his vehicle and subsequently went missing. His headless body was recovered the following afternoon from the Kaliganga riverbank in Paschbarail village. The latest discovery of the severed head has further intensified the investigation.
