Lorry Driver Arrested With Large Cannabis Haul

Police in the Mirsharai Upazila of Chittagong have intercepted a significant consignment of narcotics during a targeted operation on the Dhaka-Chittagong Highway. On the night of Thursday, 14 May 2026, law enforcement officials arrested a 19-year-old lorry driver, identified as Mashraf Uddin Rahat, after discovering 82 kilograms of cannabis concealed within his vehicle.

Details of the Operation

The operation was conducted by Mirsharai Police, who established a strategic security checkpoint on the Chittagong-bound lane directly in front of the Mirsharai Police Station gate. Acting on specific intelligence regarding the transport of illegal substances, officers stopped a lorry for inspection during the late hours of Thursday night.

Upon a thorough search of the vehicle, the police recovered the illicit haul. According to official estimates, the 82 kilograms of seized cannabis possess an approximate market value of £11,500 (1.64 million BDT).

The Accused and the Evasive Accomplice

The apprehended individual, Mashraf Uddin Rahat, is a resident of the Sundarpur area within the Feni Sadar Upazila and is the son of Abdur Rab. During preliminary interrogation, Rahat provided details concerning the origin of the journey and the involvement of an accomplice.

Rahat informed the authorities that his co-driver, 31-year-old Rokibul Islam Sujon, had successfully evaded capture earlier in the journey. According to Rahat’s testimony, Sujon disembarked from the lorry in the Baraiyarhat area, situated under the jurisdiction of the Zorarganj Police Station, shortly before the vehicle reached the checkpoint.
