A woman has died from critical injuries sustained during a domestic assault allegedly perpetrated by her husband in Ghoramara village, located within the Jhenaidah Sadar Upazila. The victim, identified as 30-year-old Sagarika Khatun, also known as Bulbuli, was attacked with a sharp weapon during the early hours of Sunday, 24 May 2026. She succumbed to her injuries while undergoing emergency medical treatment at the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital a few hours later.
Following the incident, the local police department launched an investigation to apprehend her husband, Shimul Miah, a daily wage labourer, who fled the scene immediately after the assault.

According to statements from local residents and family members, relations between the couple had been strained for a considerable period due to ongoing domestic disputes. Because of these marital conflicts, Sagarika had left her husband’s residence to stay at her paternal home in the neighbouring village of Karimpur.

During the late-night hours of the weekend, a verbal dispute between the couple escalated into physical violence. Shimul Miah allegedly used a sharp weapon to inflict deep lacerations on several parts of Sagarika’s body, including her head, hands, and legs.
Attracted by her cries for assistance, nearby neighbours rushed to the property to intervene. They successfully rescued Sagarika from the house and immediately transported her to the Jhenaidah Sadar Hospital for emergency surgical admission. Despite clinical intervention, hospital staff pronounced her dead at approximately 4:00 am due to excessive blood loss and severe trauma.
The local constabulary arrived at the medical facility shortly after her death to secure the body. The deceased was subsequently transferred to the hospital’s mortuary unit to undergo a mandatory post-mortem examination as part of criminal investigation protocols.

“Initial evidence strongly indicates that the violent incident was triggered directly by a long-standing domestic dispute between the spouses. Law enforcement units have set up checkpoints and deployed specialized search teams to track down and detain the absconding suspect, Shimul Miah, who faces formal charges of murder.
