Another 24-hour ultimatum to the Home Affairs Advisor

Inquilab Mancha has issued a renewed 24-hour ultimatum to the Home Affairs Adviser and the Law Adviser, demanding a clear public update on progress in arresting those responsible for the killing of Osman Hadi. The organisation has also called for the immediate formation of a fast-track judicial tribunal and the completion of trial proceedings within a strictly defined timeframe.

The ultimatum was announced on Monday at the Shaheed Minar by Abdullah Al Jaber, Member Secretary of Inquilab Mancha, following a protest march organised by the group. Earlier in the afternoon, at around 3:00 pm, party activists brought out a demonstration procession from Shahbagh, which later converged at the Shaheed Minar, reiterating their demand for swift justice in the Hadi murder case.

Addressing the gathering, Al Jaber stated that the organisation’s position was unequivocal: justice must be delivered without delay. He demanded that within the next 24 hours, Home Affairs Adviser Jahangir Alam Chowdhury, the Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Khoda Baksh Chowdhury, and Law Adviser Asif Nazrul must personally brief the media on the concrete steps taken so far. He warned that issuing statements through subordinate officials, instead of appearing themselves, would be unacceptable and would invite stronger political and public resistance.

Inquilab Mancha further demanded the establishment of a special fast-track tribunal, proposing that the trial be concluded within 20 to 30 working days. To ensure transparency and credibility, the organisation suggested seeking technical and investigative assistance from internationally reputed agencies comparable to the FBI and Scotland Yard. According to Al Jaber, such involvement would help prevent political interference and strengthen public confidence in the judicial process.

The group also accused alleged political collaborators embedded within civil and military intelligence structures of obstructing justice. Al Jaber insisted that the Home Affairs Adviser should disclose the identities of those hindering the investigation before resigning, if he is unable to fulfil his responsibilities.

Earlier, at a press conference held at Shahbagh around noon, Inquilab Mancha leaders criticised the government for what they described as contradictory statements regarding the whereabouts of the suspects. While some official remarks suggested that the perpetrators had fled abroad, others claimed they were still within the country. The organisation argued that such inconsistencies highlighted the failure of intelligence agencies, noting that several key identifications had been made by protesters rather than by state authorities.

The speakers emphasised that they did not seek extrajudicial killings, but rather lawful prosecution in open court. They also urged diplomatic initiatives if suspects were indeed abroad, stressing that justice must precede any electoral considerations.

Osman Hadi, remembered as a lifelong advocate of independence and sovereignty, has become a symbol of resistance for the movement. Inquilab Mancha declared that street protests would continue until all perpetrators are arrested and brought to trial. Meanwhile, the organisation confirmed that no decision has yet been taken on whether a candidate aligned with Hadi’s legacy will contest the Dhaka-8 constituency.
