Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) traffic authorities have filed 2,465 cases against motorists and other road users for violating traffic laws during a city-wide enforcement drive.
The information was disclosed in a press release issued on Wednesday (29 July), following enforcement operations conducted across different parts of the capital on Tuesday (28 July).
According to the DMP Traffic Division, the operation targeted a range of traffic violations involving buses, lorries, covered vans, CNG-run auto-rickshaws and motorcycles. The enforcement drive was carried out across eight traffic divisions of the capital, with the highest number of cases recorded in the Mirpur division.
In the Traffic-Ramna division, authorities filed 146 cases involving 14 buses, one lorry, eight covered vans, 18 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 46 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Lalbagh division recorded 194 cases. These included 14 buses, eight lorries, two covered vans, 15 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 122 motorcycles.
In the Traffic-Motijheel division, 322 cases were filed, involving 46 buses, three lorries, 18 covered vans, 52 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 147 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Wari division recorded 285 cases. Enforcement action there involved 42 buses, 41 lorries, 35 covered vans, 22 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 66 motorcycles.
In the Traffic-Tejgaon division, 291 cases were filed against vehicles including 24 buses, three lorries, 12 covered vans, 55 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 126 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Mirpur division accounted for the largest share of the enforcement action, with 589 cases. The cases involved 43 buses, 44 lorries, 39 covered vans, 45 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 331 motorcycles.
The Traffic-Uttara division recorded 382 cases, involving 65 buses, 13 lorries, 17 covered vans, 50 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 122 motorcycles.
Meanwhile, the Traffic-Gulshan division filed 256 cases involving 17 buses, three lorries, 13 covered vans, 43 CNG-run auto-rickshaws and 87 motorcycles.
The operation also resulted in 537 vehicles being sent to dumping yards, while 188 vehicles were removed by wreckers as part of enforcement measures.
The latest drive reflects continued efforts by the DMP Traffic Division to strengthen traffic discipline and ensure compliance with road regulations in the capital. With Dhaka facing persistent congestion and a high volume of mixed traffic, enforcement operations remain a key part of attempts to improve road order and discourage violations.
The DMP said such drives would continue across the Dhaka metropolitan area as part of its efforts to maintain traffic discipline and ensure that road users comply with existing traffic laws.
