Four young female students were injured on Saturday morning following the sudden detonation of a crude hand bomb near Gopalphur Darussunnah Mahila Madrasa, situated in the Kalkini municipal area of Madaripur district. The explosion occurred outside an adjacent residence, sending shockwaves through the local community and triggering an immediate emergency response.
The blast took place during the early morning hours of 15 August directly in front of the home of Emon Sardar, a local resident whose property borders the girls’ religious institution. Shrapnel and the force of the detonation struck several children gathered nearby. The injured students have been identified as eight-year-old Abida, nine-year-old Jannat, ten-year-old Minha, and nine-year-old Maimuna. Madrasa staff and nearby residents acted quickly to assist the victims, transporting them to the Kalkini Upazila Health Complex and Madaripur District Sadar Hospital for medical evaluation and care.

Emon Sardar disclaimed any knowledge of the device, stating he was unaware of who had placed it outside his residence. Hafijur Rahman, the principal of the madrasa, expressed deep shock over the event, explaining that the explosion happened without warning while students were on the premises.
A police contingent led by Officer-in-Charge (OC) Md. Zahirul Alam arrived shortly after the blast to cordon off the area, collect forensic evidence, and assess the nature of the crude device. Police confirmed that active investigations are underway to trace the origins of the explosive, establish a motive, and identify those responsible.
