Drunken Assault on MP Sparks Arrest in Keshabpur

In a disturbing incident in Keshabpur, Jessore, a 37-year-old man has been arrested for verbally abusing a Member of Parliament while allegedly intoxicated. The accused, Naem Hossain, allegedly targeted Mohammad Moktar Ali, a parliamentarian representing Jessore-6 (Keshabpur), on Monday night. The confrontation occurred at approximately 10:30 PM in front of the Pranashampad Hospital on a busy street in the heart of Keshabpur town.

According to local police sources, Naem Hossain, a resident of Chaan Sharif, Khulna, was apprehended shortly after the incident. Officers recovered a bottle of alcohol and 10 grams of cannabis from his vehicle at the time of arrest. Eyewitnesses reported that MP Moktar Ali had parked his car briefly to purchase medicines when Naem Hossain approached him from the opposite direction and began verbally abusing him in a visibly intoxicated state. Locals who witnessed the altercation attempted to intervene, but the suspect quickly fled the scene.

Subsequent police action was prompted by members of the MP’s entourage, who spotted Naem Hossain’s vehicle near Jame Mosque area. Law enforcement officers conducted a search of the vehicle, seized the contraband, and took the suspect into custody at Keshabpur Police Station.

Speaking to the media, Officer-in-Charge Sukdev Roy confirmed that a case has been filed, the suspect’s vehicle has been impounded, and Naem Hossain was presented in court on Tuesday morning. Authorities have emphasised that the case will proceed according to the law and that measures will be taken to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Locals expressed concern over the public display of aggression by a drunken individual, noting that such behaviour could incite unrest and undermine community safety. Police officials have also urged citizens to remain vigilant and to cooperate with law enforcement to maintain public order.
