Souls Honour Tagore with New Rendition

Bangladeshi rock band Souls has paid a musical tribute to Nobel laureate Rabindranath Tagore by releasing a fresh interpretation of the timeless composition “Megh Boleche Jabo Jabo Ebar”. The special rendition, featuring lead vocals by Partha Barua, was unveiled on Thursday (7 May) at 5:00pm across the band’s official YouTube channel and Spotify platform.

The release forms part of the ensemble’s broader cultural homage, timed with Tagore’s birth anniversary, and reflects the group’s continued engagement with Bengali musical heritage alongside its modern rock identity.

Carefully Preserved Musical Essence

Speaking about the project, Souls’ keyboardist Mir Masum explained that the track had been in development for quite some time, with the band placing strong emphasis on authenticity.

“We recorded the song a long while ago. It had always been our wish to have Partha da perform it. Everyone worked together beautifully on the track, and we tried to follow the original notation as meticulously as possible,” he said.

The band’s approach aimed to preserve the lyrical depth and melodic structure of the original composition while introducing subtle acoustic reinterpretations that align with Souls’ signature unplugged style.

50-Year Musical Journey

The release also coincides with Souls’ ongoing 50th anniversary celebrations. As part of this milestone, the band has committed to unveiling nine unplugged tracks in a special series. Three songs have already been released, with the latest Tagore tribute briefly pausing the scheduled rollout.

From next week, the group will resume its planned weekly releases. One of the most anticipated upcoming tracks is their evergreen hit “Mon Shudhu Mon Chhuyeche”, which will be reintroduced in a refreshed unplugged arrangement.

Band Activity and New Member

Beyond studio work, Souls has also been active on the live circuit. Mir Masum noted that drummer Abhijit Sengupta has recently joined the band, contributing to rehearsals and live performances over the past two months. The group has already appeared in several concerts and has additional domestic and international shows scheduled in the coming weeks.

According to band members, this period marks one of the most dynamic phases in Souls’ long-standing career, combining archival reinterpretation with active touring.

The band believes the Tagore tribute will resonate strongly with listeners across generations, bridging traditional Bengali music with contemporary reinterpretation. It is also expected to renew interest among both long-time followers of Souls and admirers of Rabindra Sangeet, reinforcing the enduring cultural dialogue between modern Bangladeshi rock and classical literary music heritage.
