A woman identified as Shimu Akhter (35) has died under mysterious circumstances in Naria upazila of Shariatpur district, Bangladesh, in an incident that has prompted a police investigation. It has been alleged that her husband and in-laws left her body at a hospital before fleeing the premises.
According to hospital and police sources, Shimu Akhter was taken to the Naria Upazila Health Complex emergency department on Thursday evening by her husband, Kuddus Khan, along with several relatives. On examination, the attending physician confirmed that she had already died before being brought to the facility.
Shortly after the death was certified, her husband and accompanying family members left the hospital, abandoning the body in the emergency department. The hospital authorities subsequently informed Naria Police Station.
Police arrived at the hospital later that night, recovered the body, and sent it to the morgue of Shariatpur Sadar Hospital for post-mortem examination to determine the cause of death.
Shimu Akhter was a resident of Baroipara area under Naria municipality and the wife of Kuddus Khan. Her father’s home is reported to be in Dhaka.

Dr Suranjit Das, Medical Officer at Naria Upazila Health Complex, stated that several individuals brought an unconscious woman to the emergency department on Thursday evening. Following examination, doctors confirmed that she had died before arrival. He further noted that those accompanying the body left it in the emergency department and departed shortly afterwards, after which the hospital informed the police.
Officer-in-Charge of Naria Police Station, Bahar Miah, confirmed that police responded promptly after being notified. He stated that the deceased woman’s husband and in-laws could not be located following the incident, and their residence was found locked when police visited the site. Efforts are ongoing to contact members of the family.
He added that the body has been sent for post-mortem examination and that the exact cause of death will be determined upon receipt of the report. Preliminary observations by attending doctors indicated the presence of marks on the neck, though no further conclusion has yet been reached. Police have stated that the investigation remains ongoing.
