A tragic family dispute over drug money in southern Bangladesh has resulted in the death of a mother and serious injuries to her husband and daughter, after a 21-year-old man allegedly went on a violent rampage when his demand for money was refused.
The incident occurred at around 10:00 p.m. on Sunday (10 May) in Dilpur village under Sindurpur Union in Dagonbhuiyan upazila, Feni. The accused, identified as Rafi (21), is reported to be a drug addict who turned violent after his mother, Laki Begum, refused to give him money for narcotics.
According to police and local sources, Rafi repeatedly demanded money from his mother for drug consumption. When she refused, he allegedly attacked her with a knife, inflicting multiple stab wounds. His father, Md Mostafa, and his younger sister, Mithila (18), rushed to intervene but were also stabbed during the attack.
Local residents, hearing the screams from the household, rushed to the scene and found Laki Begum critically injured. She was immediately taken to hospital but was declared dead on arrival. Her husband and daughter, both severely injured, were first taken to Feni Sadar Hospital and later referred to Chattogram Medical College Hospital due to the severity of their conditions.
Police arrived shortly after the incident and arrested Rafi from the scene. Authorities confirmed that he was taken into custody without resistance after being restrained by locals.
Investigators believe the attack was directly linked to the suspect’s drug dependency. Locals further stated that the area, located near the border of Comilla district, has long been vulnerable to drug trafficking routes, making narcotics relatively accessible and contributing to rising addiction issues among young people.
A police official confirmed the incident, describing it as deeply disturbing and emotionally devastating for the community. The suspect is currently in custody and is being prepared for presentation before a court.
| Name | Relation | Condition/Outcome |
|---|---|---|

| Md Mostafa | Father | Critically injured, referred to CMCH |
| Mithila (18) | Sister | Seriously injured, referred to CMCH |

Authorities have stated that legal proceedings are underway, and further investigation is being conducted to determine the full circumstances surrounding the incident, including the extent of the suspect’s drug involvement and possible sources of addiction. The case has sparked renewed concern over rising drug abuse and its devastating impact on families in rural communities.
