A tenth-grade student named Md Fahad has died after being struck by lightning in Brahmanbaria district.
The incident took place on Thursday afternoon in Binauti village under Binauti Union, located in Kasba Upazila. The matter was confirmed by Kasba Police Station Officer-in-Charge Naznin Sultana.
The deceased, Md Fahad, was 15 years old and a resident of South Para in Binauti village. He was the son of Md Faruk Mia.
According to local sources, Fahad had been playing football with classmates in a field beside his home during the afternoon. While the match was underway, weather conditions reportedly deteriorated suddenly. During the adverse weather, a lightning strike hit the area, leaving Fahad critically injured.
Witnesses said he collapsed on the field immediately after being struck. Local residents and members of his family quickly rushed to the scene and transported him to Kasba Upazila Health Complex for treatment.
However, the duty doctor at the health facility declared him dead upon arrival.
Police said the incident was reported to the local authorities shortly after it occurred. Officer-in-Charge Naznin Sultana confirmed the death and stated that the student had died as a result of the lightning strike.
Lightning-related fatalities are not uncommon in Bangladesh during periods of unstable weather, particularly in pre-monsoon and monsoon seasons, when thunderstorms frequently develop in open rural areas.
