Five Awards Mark Historic IPL Season

Vaibhav Suryavanshi may not have lifted the IPL trophy this season, but the 15-year-old Rajasthan Royals batter emerged as the tournament’s most decorated individual performer, securing five major awards through a remarkable campaign.

Rajasthan Royals fell short of reaching the final and were unable to compete for the title. Nevertheless, Suryavanshi’s individual performances stood out across the competition, earning him widespread recognition and a place in the tournament’s record books.

Among his five awards was the Orange Cap, presented to the highest run-scorer of the season. Suryavanshi accumulated 776 runs during the tournament, finishing ahead of every other batter. His aggressive approach also earned him the Super Striker of the Season award, having recorded a strike rate of 237.30 across 16 innings.

In addition, he won the Super Sixes of the Season award after hitting a tournament-leading 72 sixes. That tally established a new IPL record for the most sixes in a single season, surpassing the previous mark of 59 set by Chris Gayle.

The two most prestigious honours collected by Suryavanshi were the Most Valuable Player (MVP) award and the Best Emerging Player award. According to the tournament records cited, he became the first player in IPL history to win both distinctions in the same season.

His achievements extended beyond the awards themselves. Suryavanshi became the first player since Chris Gayle in 2011 to finish an IPL season as both the leading run-scorer and the player with the highest strike rate, among batters who faced at least 20 deliveries.

Despite Suryavanshi’s contributions helping Rajasthan Royals reach the play-offs, the team’s campaign ended in the second qualifier, where they were defeated by Gujarat.

The IPL final was held in Ahmedabad, where Virat Kohli’s Royal Challengers Bengaluru defeated Gujarat to claim a second consecutive IPL title. Although Rajasthan did not feature in the final, Suryavanshi returned to the spotlight during the post-match presentation ceremony, where he collected all five of his awards.

Reflecting on being named MVP, the Bihar-born teenager said: “It feels good, although I am feeling a bit of pressure because of giving interviews. It is a proud moment for me. I will try to do well again next season.”

Asked about his tendency to attack from the very first ball, Suryavanshi explained his batting philosophy: “I try to continue playing my natural game. If the ball is there to be hit, I try to take full advantage of it. That is how I play.”

While Rajasthan Royals ended the season without the championship, Suryavanshi’s record-breaking statistics, individual honours and historic achievements ensured that he remained one of the defining performers of the tournament.
