A fire that broke out in the bus stand area of Singair Upazila in Manikganj has destroyed four shops, causing significant financial losses to business owners. No casualties were reported in the incident.
The fire occurred at around 12:30 am on Thursday, according to local residents and officials of the Fire Service and Civil Defence.
Initial information indicates that the blaze originated at Kalachan Sweets Shop in the bus stand area. Within a short period, the fire spread to three adjacent establishments, including a grocery shop, a mobile recharge shop and a confectionery store. Merchandise, furniture and various commercial goods inside the affected shops were extensively damaged by the flames.
Upon receiving the report, two units from the Singair Fire Service station were dispatched to the scene. Firefighters immediately began efforts to contain the blaze, while local residents also assisted in the operation. Through the combined efforts of emergency responders and local people, the fire was brought under control after approximately 40 minutes, preventing it from spreading further to nearby businesses and structures.
Local resident Md Sadeq said that because the shops were closed at the time of the incident, there was no loss of life or injury. However, he noted that a large quantity of goods had been destroyed, leaving the affected traders facing substantial financial losses.
Singair Fire Service Station Officer Md Mohibur Rahman confirmed that two firefighting units were deployed immediately after the emergency call was received. He stated that the cooperation of local residents played an important role in bringing the situation under control within a relatively short period.
According to the station officer, preliminary findings suggest that the fire may have been caused by an electrical short circuit. However, the exact cause will be confirmed only after the completion of a detailed investigation.
Fire Service officials have initially estimated the total financial loss from the incident at approximately Tk 1.2 million. The assessment remains provisional and may be revised following a comprehensive inspection and damage evaluation.
