Dump Truck Crash Kills Two Friends

A tragic road traffic collision on the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway in the মুহুরীগঞ্জ area of Feni has claimed the lives of two young motorcyclists, leaving the local community in deep mourning and reigniting concerns over highway safety and reckless driving of heavy vehicles.

The accident occurred shortly before 6:30 a.m. on Thursday (4 June) in front of the Sultana Filling Station. According to local accounts, a speeding dump truck struck a motorcycle from behind, crushing the two riders who were returning home after a late-night trip.

The deceased were identified as 20-year-old Jihanul Islam Shaon, son of Kamrul Islam Rasul from Gobindapur Patowary Bari in Kalidah Union of Feni Sadar Upazila, and 23-year-old Iqbal Hossain Jisan, son of Abu Tayeb from Doctor Bari in Shompur village under Mangalকান্দি Union of Sonagazi Upazila.

Eyewitnesses reported that the truck was travelling at high speed and attempted to flee the scene after the collision. Locals quickly rushed to the site, rescuing the injured motorcyclist and transporting him for emergency medical treatment. One of the victims, Jisan, died at the scene, while Shaon succumbed to his injuries later at Chattogram Medical College Hospital.

Relatives described the incident as sudden and devastating. According to family members, including a cousin of the deceased, the two friends had travelled with a group of young people to the Guliyakhali Sea Beach the previous night and were returning home together at the time of the crash.

The incident has triggered widespread grief across the region. Residents and commuters expressed anger over what they described as the unchecked speed and dangerous behaviour of heavy vehicles on this stretch of the Dhaka–Chattogram Highway. Many argued that inadequate monitoring and weak enforcement of traffic regulations continue to put lives at risk.

Local people have demanded stricter enforcement of speed limits, improved highway surveillance, and stronger regulation of heavy transport vehicles. They also called for immediate steps to prevent overtaking violations and ensure safer road conditions, particularly in accident-prone areas such as Feni’s highway corridor.

The double fatality once again highlights the persistent safety challenges on one of the country’s busiest transport routes, where high traffic volume and heavy vehicle movement frequently lead to severe and often fatal accidents.
