Fatal Tricycle Crash in Nallchity

A tragic road accident in Nallchity upazila of Jhalokathi has claimed the life of a 38-year-old man after a three-wheeled cargo tricycle lost control and overturned, while leaving the vehicle’s driver critically injured. The incident has cast a deep pall of grief over the local community and renewed concerns over rural road safety and speeding vehicles.

The accident occurred on Sunday morning along the Manpasha–Khajurtala road in the Kalibari area under Siddhakathi Union. The deceased, identified as Hanif Majhi, was a resident of Bakharakathi village in Bakerganj upazila of Barishal district. He was the son of Sultan Majhi.

According to local sources and eyewitness accounts, Hanif Majhi himself was operating the tricycle at the time of the incident. The vehicle had reportedly collected a consignment of oil from Manpasha market and was en route back to Bakharakathi when the accident took place. As the tricycle approached a bend on the narrow and uneven rural road, it is believed that excessive speed caused the driver to lose control. The vehicle overturned violently, trapping Hanif beneath it, leading to his instantaneous death at the scene.

The driver of the tricycle, Md Emon, who was also on board, sustained severe injuries. Locals rushed to the scene immediately after the crash and managed to rescue the injured driver, who was first given primary treatment locally before being transferred to Sher-e-Bangla Medical College Hospital in Barishal due to the deterioration of his condition. Medical sources have described his condition as critical.

Police from Nallchity Police Station later arrived at the scene, recovered the body and completed the inquest procedure. The remains were subsequently sent to the hospital morgue for post-mortem examination as part of the ongoing legal process. Authorities have stated that an investigation is underway to determine the exact cause of the accident.

Residents of the area have highlighted long-standing concerns regarding the condition of the road. The Manpasha–Khajurtala route is known to be narrow, with multiple sharp bends and limited safety provisions, making it particularly hazardous for heavy or speeding vehicles. Locals also pointed to frequent reckless driving as a recurring factor in accidents on this stretch.
