BGB Destroys Seized Narcotics Worth £2 Million Near Satkhira Border

Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) has formally destroyed a massive consignment of narcotics valued at nearly £2 million (approximately 320 million Bangladeshi Taka) seized during various anti-smuggling drives in the Satkhira border region.

The destruction ceremony took place at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, 28 July 2026, at the headquarters of the Nildumur 17 BGB Battalion. Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan, Commander of BGB’s South-West Region, attended the event as the chief guest to oversee the proceedings.

Official figures released by the paramilitary force confirm that the exact market value of the destroyed contraband stands at 319,434,350 Taka.

These illegal substances were seized during a series of targeted operations conducted between 7 September 2023 and 11 July 2026 across the sensitive border corridors of Shyamnagar, Debhata, and Kaliganj. Over this nearly three-year period, BGB personnel intercepted smuggled goods total worth 518,579,797 Taka and arrested 41 suspects involved in cross-border smuggling networks. Narcotics accounted for roughly 320 million Taka of the total seized contraband.

The destroyed narcotics inventory comprised a wide array of illicit substances, including 15,078 bottles of Phensedyl, 18,654 Yaba tablets, 1 kg of heroin, 2.4 kg of crystal methamphetamine (Ice), and 14 bottles of LSD. Authorities also disposed of various brands of foreign liquor, 2,176,257 units of contraband prescription medicine, 75,766 packets of Indian leaf bidis, 3.81 kg of cannabis, alongside a massive quantity of other illegal intoxicating pills.

Addressing the assembly, Brigadier General Mahmudul Hasan reaffirmed BGB’s unwavering “zero tolerance” policy towards drug trafficking and illicit trade. He highlighted that border guards maintain round-the-clock vigilance along the frontiers to intercept illegal shipments before they reach local communities. He added that eradicating the drug menace requires active awareness and civic cooperation alongside robust law enforcement efforts.

The ceremony was chaired by Lieutenant Colonel Khondokar Abu Sohel Abdullah, Commanding Officer of the Nildumur 17 BGB Battalion. High-ranking officials from multiple state agencies attended the event, including the Khulna Sector Commander, the Superintendent of Police for Satkhira, representatives from the district administration, RAB-6, the Department of Narcotics Control, Customs, the Forest Department, the Fire Service, and the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
