A joint multi-agency investigation committee is being established to determine accountability after the boundary wall of Mirpur College in the capital collapsed, killing two people and injuring seven others.
The committee will comprise technical experts and representatives from the Rajdhani Unnayan Kartripakkh (RAJUK), the Public Works Department (PWD), and the Dhaka North City Corporation (DNCC). The announcement was made on Tuesday afternoon, 28 July, by DNCC Administrator Md Shafiqul Islam Khan following an official inspection of the disaster site in Mirpur-2.
Expressing deep grief over the loss of life, Mr Khan assured that stringent legal measures would be taken against those responsible once the inquiry panel submits its findings. He noted that preliminary observations pointed towards significant structural and construction flaws in the wall, which was erected in 2014. The boundary structure had been built using simple brickwork without necessary Reinforced Cement Concrete (RCC) framing, rendering it structurally unsound over time and vulnerable to sudden collapse.
To prevent similar tragedies in the future, the city corporation plans to consult with college authorities to either safely dismantle, reconstruct, or reinforce the remaining portions of the boundary wall in line with modern engineering standards.

Addressing queries regarding several victims who were injured while gathering near the perimeter to purchase subsidised commodities from a Trading Corporation of Bangladesh (TCB) open-market truck, Mr Khan stated that financial assistance would be extended to affected families. He added that, following executive directives, comprehensive medical treatment for all injured individuals is being provided free of charge across local hospitals.
