Singer Konal Praises ‘Bonolota Sen’ Film

The renowned poem ‘Bonolota Sen’ by poet Jibanananda Das has been adapted for the silver screen. Directed by Masud Hasan Uzzal, the feature film of the same name was released during Eid. The filmmaker has woven a narrative around the poem, translating its literary essence into cinematic form.

Since its release, the film has received widespread acclaim from both audiences and critics. Popular singer Konal, a prominent figure in contemporary Bangladeshi music, has joined the list of admirers. After watching the film, she expressed both admiration and a sense of personal regret on social media.

On 6 June, Konal posted on Facebook, praising director Masud Hasan Uzzal for his creative vision. She highlighted the innovative integration of figures such as Jesus Christ and Rabindranath Tagore within the story, describing the director as a “genius” for this approach. She also extended her congratulations to the entire film team and recommended the film for viewing by audiences both in Bangladesh and abroad.

Konal wrote, “I have just seen the Eid release, ‘Bonolota Sen’. For art enthusiasts, it is like a colourful canvas. For the first time, I feel regret—why I did not grow up in Bangladesh, why I did not study more Bengali literature, and why I did not explore Jibanananda Das’s work more thoroughly until now.”

She also praised the film’s musical composition, noting its subtlety and strength. She specifically mentioned the song ‘Ekhane Keu Nei’, which she said evoked an unusual sense of melancholy. Konal commended music director Bappa Mazumder for the composition, stating that it had a profound impact on the narrative.
